Fate of agriculture in fiscal year 2020/2021

Decades past for us not stammering  at a single point to spell "No race can prosper till it learns there is as much as dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem"(Booker T Washington). But honour to agriculture has only been paid in assembly, meetings, a decent parades and limited to words only words. This can be clearly figured out by the present situation our country is struggling through. Recently ,It seems to be confusing, either our country is  tackling the serious pandemic or  starvation. Hunger, food deficit, under nutrition, and ascending mortality rate has picturized our inability and impracticability in giving a soft spot for agiculture and our steadfast agricultural system.

Unreluctantly, we have been putting down to 60  percent of Indian products since 1980.Data has  revealed that During these 2 months of hurdle, we have already imported 75 thousand, 300 Metric Tons of vegetable, 56 thousand 300 MT of pulses, 39 thousand 115 MT of fruits that's equal to around 40 lakhs from India. On the other hand we have failed to internalize our own product which are degrading at the production centre. Supporting the global weakness,Before a week ridiculous act of drenching agricultural stuff imported from kapilbastu and kavre, chitwan into dumping site in Argakhachi , kaski respectively sprawl our media. How can we be so irresponsible and stub? How  don't we pay glance to those import from India which might be more prone to pandemic than our home products? How can we raise our agriculture status to sustainability and satisfaction with Such foolish action we are  snuggling?

Congruously, natural enemies are in the way to hunt our agriculture in upcoming days.We have been recently informed about the reinvasion of Army worm wrecking maize, sugarcane, wheat and cereal from other grass family in Sarlahi. The other cons we are supposing to be thudded soon is Sallaha insect(Swarm Locust) migrated from Africa to Northern India.. At the mean tick, farmers of Chitwan are continuously fighting to secure their production at harvesting hour with a disease  supposed to be net blast in rice . Critical cases are hitting agri-scope one after another. If the chaos continues throbbing us, then soon we are going to be badly smitten by hunger and starvation keeping aside this frenzied  hour of pandemic.

Of course every cloud has a silver lining..Between all these wary cases, budget allocated for the fiscal year 2076/77 has brought a flimsy hope among the farmer. Out of 14 kharab, 74arab and 64 karor, agriculture sector has been given a due attention. In order to address the upcoming threat of unemployment, hunger and food insecurity government has put aside 41 arab 40 crore for agricultural prosperity and 25 arab 96 crore for irrigation.Though the budget  scheme seems to be classical one  and could not address all  agri-demand, if all scheme could be bought into action than we might self sustain.Scheme under budget are

  •     Allocated NRP 8.1billion for prime minister agriculture program
  • Provide grants for Agri-products and technology
  • Introduction of schemes for High-self sufficiency diary, poultry and fresh vegetables
  • Promotion of organic farming
  • Establishment of food quality lab in every province
  • Introduction of land management act for sustainable utilization of land
  • Bringing encroached public lands under government in the next year
  • Online issuance of land ownership certificate in next two years.
  • Credit card facility to farmer
  • Emphasis on cotton, fiber , wool products
  • Insurance in sugarcane cultivation-9.5 million
  • Promotion of mobile application services to farmer
  • Encouraging private sectors for Nursery establishment of fruits
  • campaigning on fruits culture in marginal, wasted and under utilized land-5 million
  • Investigation and quarantine management at border region
  • Hat bazar, karar farming chakla bandi, community farming and land bank facility is addressed.
  • Provision of linking local small products to market, technical services, input subsidies, priority to local seed
  • Mechanization, modernization and commercialization in agriculture.
  •  Establishment of one agriculture and one animal  technical institution at local level.
  • Promotion of agricultural products-NPR 41 billion
  • Irrigation-NPR 27 million
  • promotion of 'One local unit, one pocket product'-NPR 3.22 billion
  • set up 74 wholesale agriculture markets in all states
  • Expand irrigation facilities in additional 22,000 hectares of land
  • Establishing 5,000 small and medium irrigation systems in 25 districts
  • Production of more than 5 million units of fruit saplings in the next fiscal
  • Installation of weather radars at two location
  • Set up one standard food testing lab each in Karnali and Gandaki Province
  • Establishment of land banks at 300 locations
Now, it's a compulsive hour to bring revolutionary change in agriculture. Allocated Budget scheme being the initiative to agri- revolution can be proceeded to final step only by the cooperative action of local government, private agencies, agriculture institutions, research centres, and farmer themself.
SO, Let's start  burning the candle at both end to
make Nepal independent and prosperous in agriculture.

"Save your field , secure  your upcomings."

  1. Well said, Srijana👏👏
At this juncture, the one and only way to survive this economic catastrope is through agriculture. In fact, the extent to which our country will be able to resolve the current economic crisis and enhance food security will depend to greater extent on its ability to promote agricultural growth.Above all, reforming structurally weak agricultural sectors is crucial.
